Restorative Fillings in Oklahoma City, OK

Restorative Fillings in Oklahoma City, OK

Restorative fillings repair a tooth that has been damaged by dental decay or other oral diseases. These fillings restore the smile to a healthy state. There are a variety of restorative fillings available, with some of the most common including composite resin fillings and porcelain fillings.

Silver amalgam fillings are inexpensive compared to composite resin fillings. However, they pose some health risks. Mercury exposure from silver amalgam fillings has been linked to neurological and kidney problems. For this reason, dentists recommend replacing silver amalgam fillings once the filling shows signs of wear and tear.

Composite resin fillings

Composite resin fillings are the most common type of filling. Composite is a tooth-colored resin material. Composites are bonded to teeth, and they become hardened using a special light. Composite resin fillings are best suited for small to medium-sized cavities, and they are often used to repair chipped or cracked teeth.

Procedure

A dental filling is necessary when a tooth suffers from decay or cavities. During the initial diagnosis, we will check the severity of the condition by visually examining it and taking x-rays of the infected tooth. The decayed or weakened portion of the tooth is removed, and then the area is roughened using an etching solution.

We will prepare the filling material by matching it with the color of the tooth. The cavity will be filled in with the prepared composite resin. It will be shaped according to the contour of the tooth and hardened using a curing light. We will also conduct a bite test and trim the filling as required.
