Implant-supported dentures are custom-crafted oral prosthetics that replace some or all of your permanent teeth. Instead of resting on your gums like traditional dentures, implant-supported dentures connect to dental implants –– titanium posts inserted into your jaw.
Following the insertion of your implants, the posts integrate with your bone’s natural structure. When that process is complete, Dr. Grace connects a pair of custom dentures to the implants, restoring your smile to its vibrant, near-original condition.
Implant-supported dentures offer various advantages, including:
Implant-supported dentures can even reduce the risk of potentially serious issues, including gum recession and bone loss.
To receive implant-supported dentures, you need enough bone to support them and healthy gums. If the oral surgeon determines you have gum disease or low bone volume in your jaw, they might recommend a prerequisite treatment like scaling and root planing or a bone graft.
In addition, let Dr. Grace and the team know if you have a chronic condition like high blood pressure or diabetes. These issues won’t keep you from getting implant-supported dentures, but they may increase the risk of complications during your recovery.
At Grace Dental Design, getting implant-supported dentures takes three visits.
Dr. Grace works with the oral surgeon of your choice or by our recommendation. If Dr. Grace and the oral surgeon team decide you qualify for implants, they insert a number of titanium posts into your jaw. This procedure can be completed with a local anesthetic or IV sedation. Following the implant placement procedure, they prescribe any necessary medication and provide at-home care instructions.
When the implants finish integrating with your jaw, you return to the office. Dr. Grace uses the iTero intraoral scanner to take digital impressions of your mouth and sends them to a dental laboratory.
Techs at the lab use your scans to design and craft a set of implant-retained dentures that fit your mouth perfectly.
When the lab finishes your implant-retained dentures, you visit Dr. Grace and the team for the final time. Dr. Grace lines up your implant-supported dentures with your dental implants and attaches them.
